BrewCap: Tigers Embarrasses Brewers As They Stay Hot

Detroit Tigers were not supposed to be contending for a playoff spot. In a full 162 game season, they’re probably not a playoff team. But in a 60-game series, they have a shot at being one. Tigers have won seven straight games as they dispose of the Brewers, 12-1. Detroit brought up their lumber and beat up the Brewers from the start of this game until the final pitch. This one went downhill late as the Brewers gave up six runs in the final two innings. Milwaukee is 16-19 on the year and only one game back of the Wild Card spot which is pretty dumb.
Player of the Game: Victor Reyes – What a night for the Tigers’ leadoff hitter. He shined in this one with four hits, five runs batted in and two runs scored. Reyes also went deep off of new Brewers pitcher Justin Topa. Reyes is a Rule 5 draft pick for the Tigers that he is playing a large role in Detroit coming back to life as a baseball team.
Honorable Mention: Christian Yelich – A couple of the minor good things in last night’s game… Yelich hit a home run that goes almost all the way up the right-field bleachers. And he added another hit in this one to move his average past .200, and now, Yelich is hitting .207. He is only one player, but if Yelich can get rolling here with multiple-hit games, things could change for the better.
One thing to know: Craig Counsell is sick of his hitting coach too – Brewers manager Craig Counsell has been very blunt recently about the offense not showing up at all. Counsell admitted to the media that the Brewers are striking out too much for his liking. Milwaukee had 14 strikeouts today which is half the outs. As I’ve said before, I don’t think they’ll part ways with a coach midway through a pandemic but it would not surprise me
Next up: Milwaukee tries to split the series against Detriot tonight and cool down these Tigers. Adrian Houser will try to rebound after a few rough outings. Spencer Turnbull gets the ball for Detroit. He has been beasty for the Tigers this season, so, Milwaukee will be up against it.
