Christian Yelich is back. Yelich is having himself an August. He is hitting .270 with four home runs and 10 hits thus far through the second month of the baseball season. The Brewers superstar woke up after a July slumber. The new rules of baseball, lack of fans, and anything else affected Yelich. Whatever he did to change his routine, it’s helping. Yelich hit a three-run homer that helped Milwaukee get past Chicago last night, 4-3. Brewers take the second game of the series and will look to at least get a split with a win today.

Player of the Game: Christian Yelich – Let me tell you, it felt good to have Yelich at the plate with two on, no outs, and know something awesome was going to happen. That is how it went for the last two years. It is not always a homer. It could be a single to score a run or a double to keep the inning rocking and rolling. But what we have seen is pitcher makes mistakes with Yelich. That is exactly what happened here. Yelich jumped all over the pitch for his fifth homer of the season.

Honorable Mention: Freddy Peralta – Fastball Freddy was awesome again out of the bullpen. He came in for Brandon Woodruff in the fifth inning when Woodruff fell apart in that inning. Peralta calmed things down. He struck out five batters, did not walk a batter and only allowed one hit. Freddy continues to be a force out of the bullpen. Again, he is going to be an awesome starter soon, don’t sell any stock with him.

One thing to ponder: Could Devin Williams be the next Josh Hader? – If the Brewers struggle on this road trip, expect to hear people wonder if Josh Hader is on the trading block. Part of me wonders if Devin Williams continues to be awesome this year, will Milwaukee move on from Hader in winter with a trade and pave the way for Williams? He has some filthy stuff and showed it last night in a big-game situation. He seemed unphased.

Next up: Brewers and Cubs get going a little earlier than expected to beat some bad weather in the Chicago area. Adrian Houser goes for the Crew while Colin Rea gets the ball for Chicago. It is Rea’s first start since 2016, and things didn’t go well for him as a starter then. But this should be a bullpen game for Chicago which is bad news considering their bullpen has been their only blind spot of a good season. This is a game where Brewers need to take advantage.
