This is a very difficult time for many people. For those working for sports teams like the Milwaukee Brewers, they’re faced with things that are uncharted territory. We should be talking about what the Brewers look like a month into the season, instead, we are wondering if the latest proposal will work for the team. Brewers released a plan for how to get ‘refunded’ for your March and April tickets. The process is a complete and utter mess. There are so many that are doing the right things in COVID-19, and it is clear the Brewers are doing the wrong things. This is a flawed system in an attempt to save as much money as they can.

I don’t blame the Brewers for trying to save money. I get it. Times are tough. Brewers missing out on ticket revenue may be a major issue for the team next season. That’s another story for another time. But to be so brazen about not providing a link to the refund feels callous to me. Brewers are trying to save money, but there are countless Wisconsinites who are without work or less work than they’re used to. They could use that money to buy groceries, mortgage payments, etc. Not save it for a credit to be used at an upcoming game. If you need a refund, here’s the spot to do it.

The other part that makes me uneasy is asking fans to hold for Opening Day. I’m not like everyone else, but if I had Opening Day tickets, I would be there whenever it opens back up to support the team. But many would prefer to not be the first ones inside Miller Park. Also if they do come back with fans this year, how many fans are we talking? There is no way we’ll see 45,000 fans by August, right? Brewers get to play God as to who gets to go or not?

It also doesn’t help that Brewers did nothing to promote this locally. It is not an easy topic to talk about, but if there was some sort of guide to explain things in more detail, it would have come off better versus a PR-heavy one shelter. Hopefully, the Brewers will not swing and miss when May cancellations happen.
