Brewers Get Bullpen Help; Miss out on Happ

Milwaukee Brewers made a move this afternoon, but it was not the move that people thought might be happening. They dealt for Joakim Soria from the Chicago White Sox for Kodi Medeiros and Wilbur Perez. Brewers get themselves some additional bullpen to add to a strength much like the New York Yankees did with adding to Zach Britton to an already strong bullpen. Soria gives Milwaukee another back-end arm to give some much needed relief to pitchers like Corey Knebel, Jeremy Jeffress and Josh Hader. Brewers did miss out on J.A. Happ who ends up staying in the American League East to pitch for the Yankees.
Some people might see the name Soria and think ‘Oh the former Kansas City Royals closer who flamed out.’ Wrong you are, my friend. Soria did have some issues, but he’s figured them out. The White Sox closer has been great in the last couple of months. He allowed one run in his last 25 appearances and his ERA is under one since mid-May. He’s been a complete beast for the White Sox. He’s a two-time All-Star that could provide support for Corey Knebel if he needs it to close out a game or be one of the options the Brewers can use in the 8th inning. The slider that Soria is throwing right now is pure filth. He might be available tonight for the team since Chicago was in Anaheim for the last couple days.
Brewers did miss out on J.A. Happ. We talked about him being a possibility a couple hours ago, but he’s going to be with the New York Yankees. New York threw in two pieces, and I’m guessing they liked it better than whatever Milwaukee offered to them. My guess is Domingo Santana was part of it. That said, I still think the Brewers are going to be going after a starter. The rumor mill has now swung to Zack Wheeler, so, we’ll see if any sort of deal gets done there. This isn’t the end for Slingin’ Steans
CHarlie.
