Budenholzer Brings His Coaching Staff to Milwaukee

Reports are out that new Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer will bring most of his assistants from Atlanta to Milwaukee. Darvin Ham and Ben Sullivan are the two biggest names out of the bunch. Ham is a rising star in the league, and a future head coach someday. Sullivan is a renowned shooting coach, and you bet he’ll be spending all summer with Giannis Antetokounmpo. Budenholzer did not keep any of the Milwaukee assistants from the Kidd/Prunty regime from what it appears. That makes sense for two reasons – one, you need new blood and two, you would hate to have these guys undermine Bud.

You compare these quotes and think Giannis might get a bump from working with a guy like Sullivan. He seems like the perfect coach to help Antetokounmpo in his next step in development. One of the things that Budenholzer’s staff is known for is the development of wing players. Kent Bazemore, Taureen Prince, Tim Hardaway Jr to name a few. Giannis isn’t exactly a wing, but he does things similar to what wings do in this league. Giannis could be flourishing under the guidance of Sullivan and the coaching staff.
Lot of people have said the Bucks have ‘no excuses’ now that coaching isn’t a problem. I agree to a certain degree. I feel like we have to see what this roster looks like before making that judgment, and you always have to consider the potential for injuries. The whole ‘no excuses’ thing will have to wait a little bit.
