Cubs Refuse To Take Brewers Seriously
Last night at Miller Park, I sat with mostly Cubs fans. The split probably ended up being 75 percent Cubs fans there with Brewers holding a 25 percent share of their home ballpark. Some might wonder how that happened with Milwaukee being successful this summer? Pretty easy, Cubs fans bought these tickets up prior to the season started so it would be this way regardless. That said, it was amazing to be there with Brent Suter pitching one of his best games of the year with the bullpen holding on amid a Javy Baez home run in the eighth and the tying run on third in the ninth. Brewers won 2-1 and a half game back. But Cubs fans and writers do not believe this success is sustainable.
From what I know, Cubs beat writer Paul T. Sullivan is seen by fans of Chicago and elsewhere as a troll. I think that term is overused, but the fact is this article reads as a big city man does not understand how the small market Brewers are a good baseball team. Cubs are also puzzled how they ever lost first place. Jake Arrieta made a declaration that Chicago will not be out of first place for the rest of the season. At some point, you wonder when Chicago will respect Milwaukee?
Don’t think for a second Brewers are blind to this and this weekend they are playing for respect and showing they belong more than anything else. Tonight might be the toughest hurdle with Junior Guerra going for Milwaukee. He’s surrendering home runs at a rapid rate, and it could be a day for long balls at Miller Park. Kyle Hendricks hasn’t been much better so this could be a real slugfest at the park.
