Most of you that read stuff from me aren’t bloggers, but maybe you can relate in your personal life. Do you ever say things to get out of ahead of it? For example, we watch a good amount of sports in our household. I’m very blessed to have a fiancee that lets me do that. But sometimes when it’s non-Wisconsin sports teams, I’ll get ahead of it and say ‘Hey, this game is on tonight, I’d like to watch.’ Usually, that’s met with no pushback and we’re good to go. The same thing happens in blogging when I see a topic that local radio or other media people could latch on to. The recent example of this is Doc Rivers being an option over Mike Budenholzer. That is something that would set Milwaukee back versus pushing them forward.

The Rivers storyline is an easy one. And one that would make Herb Kohl cream his pants if he was still the Bucks owner and if he could still cream his pants (Probably dust by now, no offense). Rivers played for Marquette and played for the Bucks in his career. He always has fond things to say about the City of Milwaukee whenever his teams would play here. The now-former Clippers coach was said to also love Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Antetokounmpo likes him a lot. If for some reason Rivers became the head coach of the Bucks, it would be a pure move to appease Antetokounmpo.

The fact is that Doc isn’t a great coach. He is a good coach, but it is the Spiderman meme with him and Mike Budenholzer when it comes to faults. They both are brutal in the playoffs. He has blown more leads than a bad baseball closer and lives off the fact he won one NBA Finals with the 2008 Celtics. What he is good at is uniting players together. The guy is a great leader of men and works well with all types of personalities. To me, that is the allure for a lot of basketball people with Rivers more than anything with his coaching.

Who knows what the next move is for Rivers, but it’s not Milwaukee. Unless the Marquette job opens up next year, and maybe we can revisit this topic. He could easily say fuck it and go play golf and do television. Or a job like New Orleans or Philadelphia could be appeasing to him. There is no reason for Milwaukee to rock the boat with Mike Budenholzer.
