Fully Endorse A Septemberfest, Not a Summerfest This Year

Things are canceling or pushing back due to COVID-19 all over the country and Milwaukee included. The latest domino to fall was Summerfest. Yesterday, the largest music festival in Milwaukee decided to push their festival back to three weekends in September. It will begin the weekend before Labor Day then the next two weekends after that. They are deciding to close down summer with a music festival to hopefully remember. It is technically still summer during those three weeks in September, therefore, they can call it Summerfest without any issues.
While things might be back to normal by the time of Summerfest’s original dates, there is no guarantee that any of the artists that were booked or had planned to perform would have been able to pull it off. Everyone has a schedule change, therefore, if they push it out six months, it gives the artists that committed and the artists on their radar more time to come to Milwaukee. I’m all for the best group of performers playing over Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. It will be three straight weeks of partying by the lake. If the weather is good, things will be looking like an all-timer.
There are not many roadblocks with Septemberfest. Originally, thanks to my assistant, I thought they were doing Friday-Sunday which was all-time bad considering NFL Sundays but that isn’t the case. Summerfest may have to dodge a Packers Thursday night game. Wisconsin will have a Friday night game versus Indiana, but that can be spun into some massive Badgers watch party. Trust me, people will show up for that. There are high school sports like football in full swing but that’s such a small group of people compared to the others in the State of Wisconsin.
Happy to see that Summerfest is still going on even if it’s a little later in the calendar.
Charlie.
