Giannis With All His Greek Fans Was Awesome

Sure, we’ll stop talking about Giannis after this blog post, but the more Giannis, the better in my book after what he’s doing this week. Giannis Antetokounmpo spent time after the game signing autographs for his New York Greek fan base who came out to see him. I didn’t realize he had that big of a contingent there to see him. I noticed a Greek flag in the lower bowl behind Bucks bench, but it surprised me to see so many people there waiting for him after the game.

There were several cool moments including where he tells the fan that ‘He won’t sign the flag.’ This drew a great reaction from Greek Twitter last night as it’s a sign of disrespect to deface a flag. It’s crazy to me that Giannis has so much country pride given how bad people treated his family. You would think he might hold a little bit of resentment, but the man can’t be happier to be from Greece. The Grecian people love him too. They were chanting ‘Giannis!’ ‘Giannis!’ as he left to board the team bus. That’s great.

Expect to see this more and more as Antetokounmpo star grows in the league. He’s deserving of having that sort of recognition. Dirk Nowitizki is probably the most recognizable international player, but Giannis is closing on him fast.
