Hey NBA, Let’s Be Honest About Start Times

The National Football League does a lot of great things. I know that makes people cringe who do not like the NFL, but it’s true. One of the examples of this is start times. If a game starts at noon, we’re kicking off five minutes or less after. The same goes for the 3:25 or 7:20p games. They do not miss it. NBA doesn’t follow the same sort of process. Instead, they tell you that a game is starting at 5:30p, but in reality, there is a 20-minute pregame before the game actually tips off. Therefore, Bucks fans, if the game is at 5:30p, it is truly starting at 5:50p. This is silly, amateur shit from the NBA.
It would be nice if TNT just said the game is starting at 6p versus 530p.

Based on this response from Bucks fans, people were very unhappy with this and for good reason. 5:30p is a brutal start time. I get why they do it because it is in Orlando and the next game needs to get going around 8:00p. Yet this is tough for people whether they’re getting home from work or trying to fit something in like walking the dog, doing a household chore, etc. If you know the game starts at 6:00p, that gives you an hour before the game actually starts. But this is the one thing I told my Bucks fans last night, you now know these games are on at 5:50p. A lot of things can get done with 20 extra minutes.
ESPN and Turner just need to say ‘NBA Pregame Show’ from 5:20-5:50p, start the game at 5:50p, and the next one around 8:10. It is pretty simple. Instead of trying to almost trick fans to watch a pregame show. I love Kenny, Chuck, Shaq, and Ernie but let’s be honest here.
