Jon Lester Puts Cubs One Game Away From World Series

Jon Lester proved why he’s one of the best pitchers in baseball last night in an 8-4 Cubs victory. Lester pitched seven innings strong with six strikeouts and five hits. Lester had full control of his pitches all night long. Los Angeles didn’t have an answer for him and allowed for Cubs to have a rested bullpen yet again. The same cannot be said for Dodgers who did not get much from Kenta Maeda as he couldn’t make it out of the fourth inning. Dave Roberts could have went with Clayton Kershaw but decided against it in a decision many will question if Los Angeles doesn’t make it to the World Series.
I know we talked about it yesterday, but still, it makes no sense. Put Kershaw on some pitch limit. Let’s say 75, and that no matter the situation he’s done at 75 pitches. That probably gets you to the fifth inning at least. Instead, Maeda struggles again with Cubs bats as Addison Russell remains hot and Javy Baez continues to look like an NLCS MVP candidate. Roberts also trotted out Joe Blanton again in a close game. Why the fuck is Blanton still on the team, much less in a tight game? Roberts overthought himself in this series countless times. He’s a good manager, but the moment is too big for him.
Kershaw heads back to Wrigley where he dominated in Game 2. This crowd will be different, and there will be a sense that one swing could change this game completely. Runs will be at a premium, and nobody is really talking about Kyle Hendricks. I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes through with a big game.
Charlie.
