Spring Training is a fun time of the year. People pop out of nowhere, and you try to temper expectations. It is a weird timeline with how Spring Training works. It starts with ‘Hey, this guy could be something.’ Then as the time in Arizona progresses you wonder ‘Could this guy make the roster?’ Then he makes it and we see if he can be something on the big league roster. Enter Logan Morrison. The former All-Star joined the Brewers on a flyer this winter. So far, Morrison is tearing it up in Spring Training. He doesn’t lack confidence either saying ‘I’m a borderline All-Star when I’m healthy.’ Could Morrison be a part of the Brewers’ bench this season?

You look at his personality and power and think this guy is an Eric Thames replacement. Morrison has an infectious personality and was a Twitter personality for years. He probably isn’t as good as Thames, the player, and that role would belong to Justin Smoak. LoMo does provide some raw power on the left side of the plate. And with the short porch in right field that could prove vital to a power hitter like LoMo. So far, we have seen that comes out to play with a few dingers. Morrison is not just a first baseman, he can also play a little bit of outfield. But I’m not sure with all of his injuries if you trust that from him.

Morrison’s top competition for a bench spot appears to be Ben Gamel. Now, Milwaukee can send him down to the minor leagues if they want to, but my assumption is Gamel could find his way on a big-league roster. While I liked what Gamel did last year, it feels like there are a lot of Ben Gamel’s on the roster if that makes sense. Brock Holt, Eric Sogard, and Gamel all feel like the same guy. Morrison gives Milwaukee more power off the bench and a player that can enter a game and change it with one swing of the bat.
