Love’s Injury Opens Up Eastern Conference

The only real news today on the sports side of things (Politics is a way different story) was Kevin Love would be out for six weeks. Love will not be back until the first part of April meaning Cleveland Cavaliers will be down J.R. Smith and Love while they’re trying to manage LeBron James minutes. There are some obvious problems here. Cavaliers should be looking at keep everyone fresh versus having homecourt for the playoffs, they’ve shown it doesn’t matter much if you’re good enough.
Cleveland sits in the one seed with Boston at 2.5 games back nipping at their heels. Isaiah Thomas has a real claim for NBA MVP, and Celtics are playing really good basketball. Also in that group is Washington Wizards. No one can stop them at home, and they’re only five games back of first place in the Eastern Conference. They need one hot stretch to make headway to the top. Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors might have a chance, yet there still a few paces away. The first three mentioned have a legitimate shot at getting to NBA Finals and disrupting the chance at trilogy.
Who makes a deal though? Toronto already did getting Serge Ibaka which is a great one for them, and they’ve added a stretch four to help balance with Jonas Valenciunas. Atlanta could use a little more defense and scoring in general. Boston desperately needs a reliable inside scorer (Hey, Celtics, sup? signed Bucks). Cleveland could use more defense, but they’re running out money presenting another ball of wax with this team. Cleveland is in real trouble, and their Eastern Conference foes smell blood in the water.
Should be a fun final two months of the season.
Charlie.
