What The Hell, Nationals?

Washington Nationals missed out on Chris Sale yesterday. Nationals were the favorites before Boston went all Trey Songz ‘Mr Steal Yo Girl’ on them. Nationals itching to make a deal decided to trade some of their prospects to Chicago for Adam Eaton. Yes, Adam Eaton. Not Adam Eaton and Jose Quintana. Just Adam Eaton. This is one of the worst baseball moves in the last five years, and Washington didn’t make a big enough move to see any impact.
Before we shit on Washington, I feel bad for Eaton. He’s a good guy and will be put under a ton of pressure to perform given the circumstances Washington brought him in on. Eaton hit .284 with a .362 OBP and 14 home runs. He gives Washington a true leadoff hitter and not a great clubhouse guy. That last part could prove to be volatile with Bryce Harper. Eaton also struggled in center fielder where he’s going since Harper will be in right. There’s no reason Washington should have gave the White Sox three starters.
Nationals gave up on Lucas Giolito after one bad season in the big leagues. He now heads to Chicago where they’ve done well with young pitching. Him and Michael Kopech could be a dangerous one-two punch in a few years to come. Reynaldo Lopez will be another starter ready to go next season. Some think he might be a strong reliever when it’s all said and done, but he he throws serious gas. To me, this reeks of Washington giving up on two guys because they underperformed in one year in the big leagues. They don’t have the patience to wait around with Harper’s impending free agency.
But if they were going to give up on prospects, they could have done a lot better than an above average leadoff hitter with some personality issues.
Charlie.
