Packers Are Taking a Major Risk Not Playing Davante Adams Tonight

Green Bay Packers will be without Davante Adams tonight. He will miss a second-straight game with a hamstring injury. Packers are taking a cautious approach to Adams’ injury. With Green Bay on bye next week, Packers are putting him on ice for what we will be three weeks. With Allen Lazard also out with injury, Green Bay is taking a massive risk by not playing Adams tonight. While there is definitely a pathway to beat the Falcons, Packers are playing with fire here without their two top receivers. Adams voiced his displeasure this morning in a since-deleted tweet.
Sorry fans and friends I wont be on the field tonight. I’ve done everything I need to do and proved Im ready but I guess I don’t know my body as well as others. Good luck out there my boys
As a fan, you love to see Adams’ frustration. He wants to be out there. He doesn’t want to take a week off. Yet the Packers are playing it safe. The reason why this is a risk is what is at stake this early in the season. Seahawks are undefeated too. They already are in the clubhouse with four wins. Green Bay doesn’t play them this year. If the Packers were to lose to Atlanta then Seattle beats Minnesota next week, they’re 1.5 games up on Green Bay without a straight tiebreaker. Only having one team with a bye it’s crucial to keep pace with the opposition.
But as noted, there is a way to beat Atlanta without Adams. Green Bay runs an offense that is predicated on running backs and tight ends. They should have an offense that involves both positions heavily with a dash of the wide receiving core. With the offensive line of the Packers plus their style, they can take advantage of Atlanta’s defense. It would not surprise me if the Packers still win by double-digits even without Adams.
Packers are opening up a can of worms though. If Atlanta beats Green Bay, people are going to point the finger directly at Matt LaFleur for not playing Adams. Even if the Packers defense is awful and they’re the reason for the loss, people are going to lose their minds that Green Bay went the load management route with Adams.
