Packers Should At Least Consider a Dez Bryant Tryout

Dez Bryant is trying to get back into football. After a full year off recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, the former first-round pick is looking for a new home. Bryant could not tryout anywhere during COVID-19, but with new rules in place, Bryant is free to tryout wherever he wants as long as he passes a couple of COVID tests. Green Bay Packers should at least check in on Bryant and see if there is any juice left in the tank. Achilles injuries are tricky ones and might not see the full version of Bryant. But he could be a valuable addition if Bryant seems ready to roll.
A former Packers wide receiver advocated for Bryant to join the Packers. James Jones said over the weekend that he thought the Packers should sign Bryant. The wide receiver position will be the story to start the season, other than the Rodgers-Love conversation. Green Bay did not address what was a glaring problem for them last season. Bryant could help alleviate some of that pain, but he would be in the rotation like everyone else besides Davante Adams. Could Dez accept that? I’m unsure.
Also, people keep saying the Packers need a wide receiver yet the team doesn’t believe you. They’ve stuck to their guns all season. I’ve learned a long time ago when the team disagrees with the fanbase, it is rooted in logic, not just to torment you. Dez would be a fun addition, but Green Bay feels pretty good about their guys obviously. I do think some are underestimating Equanamious St. Brown and the possibility that Marquez Valdes-Scantling picks himself off the floor. A tryout costs nothing though, and it wouldn’t hurt just to see what Bryant is at this point. Ted Thompson’s logic was to check in on everyone, and Bryant would check the box here.
We’ll see if Green Bay goes after Dez, but something tells me they’re all set at the receiver position.
