Milwaukee Bucks made a deal two months prior to the deadline. Milwaukee acquired George Hill from Cleveland and Jason Smith from Washington for Matthew Dellavedova and John Henson plus a first and second rounder in 2021. That might seem like a lot for two bench players, but general manager Jon Horst found a way to knock off so much money off the books for next season. No one thought the Bucks could move Delly considering he had 19.2 million and two years left on his absurd deal plus Henson still carried 18.2 left. Horst cleared 37.4 million dollars of bad contract money to upgrade his team for this season and deepen their team in December, not February.

George Hill brings some veteran experience to the team. Hill is shooting 46 percent from three for the season, and he played with Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer when Bud was an assistant at San Antonio. There’s a great deal of playoff experience with the former first rounder. He gives Milwaukee a solid backup point guard which is something they’ve lacked since Malcolm Brogdon went into the starting lineup and began playing a wing. Hill can be an off-ball guard as well, therefore, he could play with Bledsoe or Brogdon depending on the lineups. I’m excited to see what he can do this season.

As for Smith who came over from Washington as the Wizards receive Sam Dekker breaking a great deal of Badgers fans’ hearts, he is another big body down low. Smith is seven feet, 240 lbs. He doesn’t have one attribute that stands out to you, but it gives Milwaukee an option to put a physical big man in there to give Brook Lopez a breather. There are games where Thon Maker is overmatched and needs help from a size perspective. That’s where Smith comes into the mix. I don’t expect a ton from him, but I do think he has the ability to make a slight impact. Coach Bud obviously loves big ass dudes considering Lopez and Smith.

Bucks made a good and complicated trade. I’ve said a couple times throughout the year that Horst doesn’t get enough credit for being a good GM. People need to recognize that he put a good Bucks team together and building it to a winner.
