Ron Wolf Provides Further Reason Why Packers Took Love

There is a phrase ‘Respect your elders.’ We all know it. How many of us follow it, I’m unsure. But it is out there. When former Packers general manager Ron Wolf does interviews with the local media, you listen. He appeared on Bill Michaels Show today where he had some great opinions on Jordan Love. While the selection of Love is a topic that has beaten into the ground, it is still important to see from Wolf’s eyes why the Packers made that choice.
More from Wolf continued:
"There's no position in the game as important as QB, and if you don't have a quality back-up QB, you're treading on thin ice. That's my two cents." #Packers

Wolf explained this perfectly and hope it sheds a light for some Packers fans. Sure, Wolf gave Brian Gutekunst his first job, therefore, he is biased but the guy knew quarterbacks. Remember, Wolf, traded a first-round pick for Brett Favre. And also if you recall, Favre had not started a game. Could you imagine the outrage if Wolf did that today? A floundering franchise (Packers were that at the time) drafts a nobody quarterback from a mid-major in Mississippi? People would have lost their fucking shit. Wolf drafted other starters to the Packers like Ty Detmer, Aaron Brooks, Mark Brunell, and Doug Pederson.
And that’s why you listen when Wolf talks about the quarterback position. We never saw Wolf in the position that Ted Thompson or Gutekunst faced with drafting the heir apparent. But something tells me, the former Packers general manager would have been ready to make that decision. Sure, he doesn’t have the insight like others do on Love, but he speaks from his perspective on the game and the position of quarterback. Even though the Love draft pick ruffled feathers, people have a hard time weighing the value of quarterback when you don’t need one. It’s a math problem that Walter White couldn’t solve on his own.
The more and more people you see talk about Love (By the way, can we stop with Love/Rodgers stuff soon? It’s jumped the shark like Tiger King during quarantine). the more you see why the Packers made this decision.
Charlie.
