Welcome to a brand new SnoTapWI blog post that are probably going to come up hot and heavy over the next few days and weeks. Television and movie reviews from yours truly. Why are we doing this? Well, sports content is sparse on some days and we need other things to carry the weight. I have another version of this coming out later today that will help you in the food and drink game. We start with one of the new shows that got a bump in the quarantine times. Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere starring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. Three episodes are out now and they’ll be out weekly until April 22nd on Hulu.

What’s this show about? – It is about a wealthy community outside of Cleveland, Ohio called Shaker. Witherspoon’s character plays a similar role to what she does in Big Little Lies. Like I said to my girlfriend, she has the ‘suburban mom aka Karen who complains about everything’ role really well. She runs the show there with a ‘perfect’ family. Washington plays a traveling artist whose life along with her daughter become intertwined with Witherspoon’s family. It starts with a massive house fire and works its way back from there.

The two things I liked about this show: The 90’s callbacks and the Washington/Witherspoon dynamic – The show takes place in 1997 and oh boy, there are references all over the place. Chumbawumba, Cranberries, The Real World, 90210, etc. It is always good when shows play into the era they’re in. I also love any scene that Washington and Witherspoon are together. They’re two powerhouses and show it throughout although I would give the nod to Witherspoon on who does a better job.

One thing I didn’t like: Episode three reveal – The final of the three episodes has a big twist. Or so it feels like and it’s just a meh thing to me. Maybe it will matter more as the season goes on, but it feels slotted in there for little rhyme or reason.

Should you watch? Yes and definitely yes if you’re with a significant other. It is possible they’ve read the book or heard of the book so don’t be surprised if they recommend it first.
