Should I Stream This?!: Netflix’s Ozark

We’re back! There is a reason why my streaming reviews have been nonexistent. The reason is Ozark. I spent the last two weeks plus watching three full seasons. I enjoyed it greatly. Season one is a fantastic television that keeps you captivated throughout the whole season. Season two is good but truly sets the table for what’s on deck in Season 3. The last few episodes in Season 3 are about as gripping as they get. Ozark is the new House of Cards for Netflix in terms of popularity, star power, and the ability to do anything with their show.
What is the show about? I will not give too much away but Jason Bateman plays a financial advisor in Chicago. He seems like a typical upper-middle-class male that is dealing with marital problems. But then as you learn in Episode 1, he launders money for the Mexican drug cartel. Shit gets real from there and his family has to move down to the Ozarks to start a new life. I’ll live it there. The reason why this show is so good in my opinion is the acting. Bateman is great in a serious role. Laura Linney is terrific amid her annoying heel turn in Season 3. Julia Garner is a bonafide star.
One Thing I Liked About This Show: The bit characters are just as important as the stars – One thing that Ozark does really well brings all the characters together. This isn’t about the three main characters. All of them have a purpose, and they find a way to weave in and out of each other’s lives. My favorite bit characters are Jonah, Three, and Tuck.
One Thing I Didn’t Like: Storylines can get predictable every now and again – You’re not going to see everything coming, but I thought Season 2 did not have any big-time twists. Everything was spelled out. But this is a nitpick. Honestly, this is my favorite television show in a long time. It moved way up on my power rankings of current favorite shows.
Should I Watch it? Yes, this is a great thing to start over the weekend. My biggest recommendation to someone if they’re starting a show in quarantine is doing it on the weekend. My girlfriend and I knocked out five episodes the first night watching it on a Friday night.
