At the very end of the draft process, there are two ways to look at new information. One, this is the route that team x was going all along. Or we planted some information with a scout or two to create a smokescreen. In the last two days, there have been mock drafts with the Green Bay Packers taking a defensive tackle. Marlon Davidson from Auburn or Ross Blacklock from TCU. Packers had not been projecting for a defensive tackle all draft season and all of the sudden, noise starts to build. So where do we think this is going?

Could the Packers use a defensive lineman? Maybe. It is never a bad thing to build a stable at defensive line, but if you were to ask me, what positions do not have holes? My answer would be defensive line, safety, and offensive guard. That’s why it’s clear there is a smokescreen happening here. Not sure who they’re trying to throw off the scent, but they likely do not want people to take their guy.

Brian Gutekunst made it clear in his pre-Draft presser that he knows there is a drop-off at the receiver position. Gutekunst seemed like that is a position they’re looking to fill early. But like any team in the NFL, they do not want to give away the prize before what happens on draft. This could also be a pivot smokescreen because Green Bay knows that the offensive tackles are going to fly off this board. Some could see a run of four offensive tackles in the first eleven picks. If that happens, there is no way the thought of Erza Cleveland happens at 30.

Am I doing myself to not have a mental breakdown about not drafting a wide receiver? Perhaps. I’m not hellbent on drafting a receiver. Offensive tackle or middle linebacker works just fine for me as well. Murph talked me into a cornerback in round one too, so, it’s not like they have to draft a receiver. But if in the best receiver draft of all-time, when you need a receiver, Packers draft a defensive lineman, I may lose my shit.
