SnoTapWI Bar Watch: Duke’s On Water
If you told someone you’re going to Duke’s for the night, they would probably give you a weird look. Why? Well, it is a bit of a young man and woman’s bar. It is a technical sports bar. But with their cheap drink deals, college kids fill that place up. Don’t get me wrong though, Duke’s can be a fun time. They draw good crowds and the environment can be rocking. I’ve watched Marquette games there in the past with my girlfriend, as it is her favorite college bar. I had a great time when we did that. A few weeks ago, we were there post-National Marquette Day game hanging out. This is my review of Duke’s a place to watch sports.
Is this a sports bar?
Yes, technically. I did not know this until I looked it up on the Internet. Their Google listing says they’re a sports bar. They do have things to keep you distracted while watching sports. They have a pool table, darts, beer pong, pop-a-shot, and a few other items I forget. I should have realized this is a sports bar considering all of these different items.
How is their TV Game?
Pretty good. It is not perfect, but it’s not the worst thing I’ve seen. They have two bars in one – Duke’s side and Scooter’s side. From a TV aspect, Scooter’s is the side you want to be on. They have TV’s over the bars along with multiple throughout the larger space. Duke’s side does not have the same number.
What was their variety of sports on television?
This is the thing that impressed me the most about my time at Duke’s. They had all different types of games. As mentioned, it is National Marquette Day. Things are crazy. Drunk college kids everywhere. But they had the knowledge to have all types of games on. Wisconsin-Ohio State, the XFL game, a women’s game, and a few others were all on televisions. They didn’t miss a beat. There is a good variety which is all we can ask for in a bar.
Did they have local sports on television?
Yes, as mentioned, they had the Badgers game on. Bold move with a bunch of rowdy Marquette students, but they did not care about that.
GRADE: A-
This might not be a place most people think to go for a game, but trust me when I say, it’s a good time and you’ll enjoy watching sports there. The prices are dirt cheap meaning the crowd can be an interesting one, but usually, it is not something that will make you annoyed or upset you’re there.
