SnoTapWI Top Five: Favorite Things About Baseball

Today was supposed to be Opening Day. The term ‘Hope springs eternal’ would be said throughout the United States. Every team thinks for a little bit that they have a chance at being better than expected. Milwaukee planned to begin their season against the Chicago Cubs. A rivalry game off the bat with the two fanbases likely going at each other’s throat in the parking lot. Honestly, whenever fans are allowed back, there should be more harmony between the fans. In honor of baseball, my list today features my favorite things about baseball.
5. Bernie Brewer going down the slide – There is something fun about watching Bernie Brewer slide down after a home run. Everyone is high-fiving and celebrating a dinger in the stands. Then you have Bernie flying down the slide to celebrate a home run. If only, the Brewers mascot was landing into a beer mug. I get why they had to change it, but a beer mug will always be cooler.
4. Miller Park’s Beer – There is something different about the Miller Park beer. I don’t know if it’s due to watching baseball but having a beer at Miller Park. There might be a later SnoTapWI Top Five where we talk about locations to have a beer, and baseball stadium would be on the list. It doesn’t matter if it’s a tailgate or inside the stadium, watching baseball and having a cold one is great.
3. A great catch by Lorenzo Cain – Sure, we could list someone else here, but this is really about Lorenzo Cain. And formerly, it was about Carlos Gomez. There is something fun about watching them play defense. Both play with a reckless abandon. Cain made so many great catches. As WTMJ is replaying last year’s Opening Day game, it is hard to forget about the ‘NOT TODAY’ moment from last year.
2. Bob Uecker – Sometimes, people talk him up too much. But you have to respect the legend that is Bob Uecker. Getting in your car on a random Tuesday and popping on Uecker for an inning or two is great. The best is when the game is a blowout. Uecker starts spinning stories from either his playing days or just a random time in his life. Once that starts, you never know what you’re getting the rest of the way. Uecker is baseball in the City of Milwaukee.
1. Home runs – Chuck digs the long ball. That’s weird to talk in the third person, but it’s true. Home runs also known as dingers are the best. Seeing your team take an opponent deep is the best. Home runs are good at any point in the game, but they’re more fun when your team gets out to an early lead because of a homer. Or a home run in the late innings to tie or take the lead. Brian Anderson with his usual, ‘One swing of the bat and this one will be tied.’
Don’t think too much about baseball today, it’s not healthy.
Charlie.
