BrewCap: Brewers Amazingly Take the NL Central

In late August, the Milwaukee Brewers trailed by six games in the National League Central. With 21 games left to play, Milwaukee trailed by four games. A local radio host advises fans to look forward to the Wild Card and not the division at that time. Good thing the Brewers didn’t listen to that advice. They climbed their way to the top continuing to chip away at the Cubs lead in the National League Central. By Saturday night, the two teams were tied, and one game left to maybe decide things on Sunday. It did nothing, therefore, a showdown happened at Wrigley on Monday afternoon. Brewers went into Wrigley and silenced the Cubs bats to win 3-1 to clinch the Central and took homefield advantage. What an amazing run.
Player of the Game: Orlando Arcia – When you get on a heater or a postseason run, you need to have players come out of nowhere once in awhile to deliver a huge game. In the Central championship, Arcia came through for this team. He had four hits, a career high, and scored two of the three Brewers runs. Arcia getting hot in the month of October would be a huge lift to this team. He deserves a ton of love for his performance in this game.
Silver Star: Jhoulys Chacin – It’s not perfect, but Chacin did just enough. He pitched nearly six innings and only allowed one hit, a mistake to Anthony Rizzo. Chacin pitched really well for Milwaukek. That’s what you need from your ‘ace’. Cubs did not have many answers for the Brewers starter. Chacin will be a factor in the postseason. The slider he used as his get-out pitch is one of the better on the Milwaukee’s pitching staff.
Honorable Mention: Josh Hader – Man, you could have a few people here. Lorenzo Cain, Ryan Braun, Joakim Soria, there were so many contributors to Milwaukee winning this game. Hader deserved it though. He came in the eighth inning with some questions about his recent performance. Hader shut that up pretty quickly with two clean innings, one hit allowed and three strikeouts. He pitched marvelously.
Next up: Brewers will wait to see who they play on Thursday afternoon or evening. We do not have a time, but we know it’s at Miller Park. It could be either against the upstart Colorado Rockies which is a guaranteed early start or the Cubs. We’ll see what happens tonight. Brewers will likely send Wade Miley to the hill.
