My Open Letter to the Milwaukee Brewers

Dear Milwaukee Brewers,
I have a confession to make to start this month of October. I am heading to London later today, and I’m going to be gone for the National League Division Series. I’ll be back for the Championship Series, so, I’m asking for a favor. Please be still playing when I get back to the states. While I am patiently awaiting the playoff schedule to plan how I’m going to manage my sleep with Brewers baseball, I am requesting that you still are playing baseball. This might seem selfish, but I’m having too much fucking fun rooting for this team. I want to spend time with my Milwaukee brethren in weeks to come getting hammered off Miller Lite and cheer on this team. As WSSP’s Bart Winkler said, “When the baseball team is good, there’s no better time to be in Milwaukee.”
After all, this is a baseball town. People might tell you differently or bring up the Packers but the Brewers are the fabric of this sports fanhood. In years to come, the Milwaukee Bucks might make a push with Giannis, yet, Milwaukee has their own version with Christian Yelich. I’ve said this before and can say it again, give me a Brewers World Series title, and I will not need another sports championship in my life. I don’t want to use the D word about this team, but it’s hard for me to not think about when watching this month.
If you’re not here when I get back, I understand. It’s sports. We cannot predict sports and we cannot predict what happens in the future. If the Chicago Cubs beat you, maybe it’s a good thing that I’ll be overseas, so, I don’t have to drown myself in whisky when bars across Milwaukee play ‘Go Cubs Go’ because a fuckboy Cubs fan turned it on your jukebox (By the way, bar owners don’t allow Go Cubs Go in your bars if we get Brewers-Cubs. I get there are Cubs fans in this city, but their money doesn’t matter). If you’re gone (Shouts to Matchbox 20!), I’ll remember how much fun I had watching baseball and the all of the conversations I had with my baseball-obsessed father.
There are so many likable players. Ryan Braun still being an awesome player. Yelich is a star and the face of the franchise. Lorenzo Cain’s comeback has been awesome. The Mayor is still a boss. Wade Miley is a surprising piece of the puzzle. JJ’s comeback is the best. Josh Hader might have questionable tweets, but he’s one of the funnest players to watch in baseball. Corey Knebel and Orlando Arica’s comebacks have been a major part of this kick to finish. And who could forget Jesus Aguilar?! All of this has been great.
If you can, I hope I am on my couch watching the NLCS on Friday night when I get back to Milwaukee.
Love,
Charlie.
