BrewCap: No Offense Allowed for the Brewers
Milwaukee Brewers are in a bit of a rut right now. They’re 13-12 inching closer to a .500 mark. They can not seem to generate any sort of offense, and they struggle pitching. Things are not good right now for the Brew Crew. Milwaukee dropped six of their last seven games including three straight losses. Brewers fell on Tuesday, 4-2, as the Cardinals had two late runs come across off reliever Alex Wilson. The season is still all summer, but Milwaukee finds themselves in a danger zone.
Player of the Game: Travis Shaw – It is good to see Travis Shaw’s power stroke get back to him. He slugged two home runs yesterday and really ended up being the only offense for the Crew. If the Brewers third baseman can get going here, Milwaukee will be in a much better spot. Shaw is making loud contact, and now he needs to start spraying the ball I know this makes me sound like an old baseball fan, but when Milwaukee continues to only have five hits in a game, it is frustrating as a fan.
Honorable Mention: Yadier Molina – Hate to put Yadi anywhere in my recaps, but he deserves it for his play last night. Yadier Molina had three hits on four at-bats with two rus scored. He had the biggest hit of the night off Alex Wilson. The Brewers right-hander gave up a home run to Paul DeJong then got himself in trouble with Molina at the plate. Naturally, Yadi comes through with a big double.
Thing I liked: Matt Albers bounces back nicely – Not sure why or how but Matt Albers has become the pitcher who steps in after a short outing. Zach Davies only went 4.2 innings yesterday due to a rising pitch count. Albers came in and handled an inning plus getting one out in the fifth inning. He did a nice job after a tough outing last Thursday.
Thing I didn’t like: One runner in scorer position + Ed Sedar screws up again – Brewers had a great total of one runner in scoring position. ONE. That’s unacceptable for a team that is supposed to have offensive firepower. It doesn’t help though when Ed Sedar is waiving home a runner who has no business scoring in the first place. He had another terrible send with Christian Yelich in the first inning which didn’t give Shaw a chance to drive in a run.
Next Up: Brewers will try to get one from the Cardinals as they face off against Adam Wainright this afternoon. Waino is always tough on the Brewers, and he is a very good starter at home. It will take a lot for the Crew. Brewers send Jhoulys Chacin to the hill. He has not done well in the past versus St. Louis, but he did conquer some of those demons last year.
Charlie.
