BrewCap: Peralta & Moose Help Brewers Avoid Sweep
Milwaukee Brewers haven’t been swept since mid-April. It came from the Los Angeles Angels in what could best be described as a weird series. Miami Marlins had a chance to do the unthinkable and pull a road sweep from the Brewers on Thursday afternoon. They haven’t done that at Miller Park since 2006. And they still haven’t done it as the Brewers were able to salvage one win with a 5-1 victory. Mike Moustakas had two home runs while Freddy Peralta had the best start of his 2019 season.
Player of the Game: Freddy Peralta – Brewers needed a spot start with injuries to Gio Gonzalez and Jhoulys Chacin. Freddy Peralta stepped in and looked great out there. He went six innings with nine strikeouts, four hits allowed and one run allowed. Peralta looked great out there. He started off strong in the first inning which has given him troubles in the past. Peralta had three straight groundballs in that inning, and it was smooth sailing from there. This is the second game this season where Peralta had nine strikeouts in a start. If this version exists on a regular basis for the rest of the year, look out.
Honorable Mention: Mike Moustakas – How about Moose?! I said last week that he is probably an All-Star, but now, he is a full-fledged All-Star without question. He is having such a good year for the Brewers. Moustakas hit two home runs off left-hander Caleb Smith. Both were rocket shots by the Brewers third/second baseman. He is currently on pace for 46 home runs which would be a career high. The combination of Moustakas and Christan Yelich, who also homered, is extremely dangerous.
The Thing I Like: The stars showed up – Here’s the thing that I loved about on Thursday’s win is the Brewers’ star players were the ones that won the game for the Brewers. Other than Moustakas and Yelich, Lorenzo Cain and Ryan Braun each had good games as well. All four of those guys knew the Brewers needed a win and did the damn thing. That’s always nice to see when that happens in any sport.
The Thing I Didn’t Like: Jesus Aguilar continues to be useless – Look, I know it’s just one game and he hasn’t played much but again, Aguilar did absolutely nothing in a game. He went 1-for-4 with a single and a pretty bad strikeout. He is currently hitting .188. Travis Shaw did not play in this game, but he did not do much in his first series back from his mental health break.
The Highlight of the Day: Moustakas homers and the Lion King reference here flies right over my head

Next up: Brewers and Pirates get back together for another series. This time at Miller Park. This weekend should be pretty crazy at The Keg. Brandon Woodruff will try to redeem himself after a tough start in Pittsburgh. The away squad sends Rookie Davis to the hill. Obviously, this is a great name but he’s a putrid pitcher. He started against the Brewers in 2017 and didn’t make it out of the third inning giving up seven runs on eleven hits.
