BrewCap: Rockies’ Series Ends on a Sour Note
Milwaukee Brewers started off strong this week with two wins versus the Colorado Rockies. They played really well in those games. This meant Milwaukee won four of their last five games by the end of Tuesday night. Brewers could have won three straight on Wednesday then it went all to fucking hell when Chase Anderson hurt his finger and led to a bullpen malfunction. Same thing basically happened on Thursday when Freddy Peralta struggled in his first start by from Triple A. Brewers are a current mess with their starting pitching, and it is not getting better.
Player of the Game: David Dahl – You could pick a variety of Rockies’ players, honestly. They all played really well. David Dahl gets this honor for three hits on Thursday morning. He hit a home run and double resulting in a 3-for-5 day with a homer and three RBIs. Dahl has been a player that people are waiting to breakout for the last few years. He had some injury issues in the last two years, but Dahl is off to a good start this season.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Braun – Good to see Braun do some hitting on a right-hander on Thursday. Braun had two hits including a two-run home run. This is his sixth homer of the year, but he is still hitting only .206 for the season. I’m usually okay with a low batting average if the OBP is high, and that’s not the case with Braun. He is not taking walks with only a .257 OBP. If Braun is not going to take walks, he needs to start hitting the baseball.
Thing I liked: Well the offense keeps showing up this time – Brewers gave up eleven runs for their second straight game, but this time, the offense gave them a chance at different points of this game. Brewers had this game at 7-3 at the end of third, but Colorado pushed it back out to 9-3 in the fourth inning. If the first two innings did not happen, Milwaukee wins 5-4, but the problem is the first two innings happened.
Thing I didn’t like: The starting pitching continues to be a fucking disaster – Jesus, guys. What are we doing here? David Stearns looks more and more like an idiot for not bringing a few starters back such as Wade Miley or Jordan Lyles. They did not have any insurance plans for their young starters. This is Stearns fist real mistake of his career, and he needs to figure out how to fix it.
Next up: Brewers welcome the Mets to Miller Park. Hopefully, they get a decent crowd on Friday night with the Bucks game happening at the same time. Steven Matz will try to continue his dominance against the Brewers. Usually when a team sees a team twice in a row, they jump all over him. The Crew will send Brandon Woodruff and boy, do they need a good start from him.
