BrewCap Vol. 138: Uh… Is Wily Peralta Good Again?
Truth be told, I don’t know what the BrewCap holds for us at the end of the season. I want to write about the Milwaukee Brewers a couple times a week before the season rides out. I might not cover every game, but if there is a notable moment in a game coming down the stretch we will talk about it. Milwaukee Brewers scored a 12-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.
Player of the Game: Wily Peralta – What in the name of Bob Uecker is going on here?! Wily Peralta has been awful all season long until the last couple of starts. He dominated St. Louis last week with 10 strikeouts and only two earned runs. Tonight, Peralta went nearly eight innings, and if it wasn’t for Anthony Rizzo, he would have only gave up one run for the game. If Peralta continues his late-season push, he might be a trade candidate in the winter.
Other News and Notes
– As mentioned, Rizzo owns Peralta. He has seven home runs against the Brewers pitcher including two more tonight. Cubs are hoping this will spark Rizzo who has been in a slump of late.
– Ryan Braun loves playing in hostile Miller Park. This thing is full of Cubs fans, and they are booing him still from 2012 which remains the weirdest thing. Braun got his tonight with four RBI’s including a towering three-run home run. Braun continues to play well this season.
– Domingo Santana has six hits in his last 10 at-bats. Craig Counsell says he will continue to use him when the pitcher presents himself, but Santana should get more looks with Hernan Perez playing second base. He put out a good lineup tonight minus Captain Kirk hitting second.
– Remember when people were critical of Orlando Arica? Well, this is what he’s done recently

– Jason Hammel cannot pitch on the road. The last three road starts have been absolutely dreadful, and it’s clear he might not be a postseason starter for Chicago come October.
