Petty Politics May Temporarily Shut Down Sobelman’s Marquette

The licensing issue stems from a June 22 incident when four students suffered minor injuries after police said a man accidentally fired a gun in the vestibule of the restaurant at North 16th and West Wells streets. The shooter, a man in his 20s, then ran off, police said.
The license for the business, formally known as D&M Sobelmans II, Inc, expired at the end of August. Business licenses are often renewed without issue, but the gun incident prompted a hearing. (via WISN)
Well this is a shame. I’ve never eaten at this location, but this seems silly by all parties involved. It does feel like this licensing issue runs deeper than just this one occurrence as Dave Sobelman and Bob Baumann have some true beef (Pardon the pun). The fact politicians let this sort of petty shit get int the way of 40 students losing their jobs for at least a pay period including other non-student workers as well. Not to mention, charity functions will need a new location for their cause… YAY LOCAL POLITICS. Baumann needs to grow up and put his differences aside to help a local business. Gunshots don’t usually happen here, nor is it a place where bad things happen on the Marquette campus. Hopefully, people can come to a resolution today.
