BuckyCap: Badgers Take Care of Business vs. Northwestern
Wisconsin Badgers had to be like a business on Wednesday evening. This is ironic considering they were playing Northwestern. All Wisconsin had to do was go in and win. They did just that. Wisconsin won 63-48 and handled things to put themselves at the top of the Big Ten for now. That is a hell of an accomplishment for Wisconsin considering that they’re were .500 at the start of February. If it were not for the Rutgers and Penn State revival, Greg Gard should be Big Ten Coach of the Year. Badgers did not have a problem with the lowly Wildcats on Wednesday. Wisconsin never trailed in this game. They won wire-to-wire.
Player of the Game: Nate Reuvers – With Wisconsin only scoring 63 points, no one scored that much. More of a balanced night. Reuvers is the only player to score in double-digits. That is a good thing though considering Reuvers struggled in the last few games especially with the ascent of Micah Potter. It is good to see him get going again in this one as the tournament season nears closer.
Honorable Mention: Brad Davison – He scored only nine points, but what I find notable in the box score was the eight rebounds from Davison. He grabbed seven rebounds against Minnesota. He is finding himself to be more aggressive on the boards at the guard position. With the football player mentality of Davison, it is not a surprise that he gets in there for rebounds. He only averages 4.4 rebounds per game, but that has moved up one rebound per year from last season.
What to watch: How Wisconsin can end up as the one seed – Wisconsin will keep their eye on their Big Ten foes for the next few games. If Illinois beats Ohio State, they will join Michigan State, Maryland, and Wisconsin at the top. Wisconsin can put the pressure on everyone else if they win on Saturday afternoon as Michigan State and Maryland both play on Sunday. With both other teams including Illinois, if they win, all play at home. For Wisconsin to be there are nuts.
Next up: As mentioned, Badgers are headed to Indiana on Saturday. Hoosiers are a good home team. They took care of business against Minnesota on Wednesday night. Hoosiers are likely safe in the tournament. Indiana could use another Quad 1 win though to ensure they avoid playing in the First Four.
