Budenholzer Turns Hawks U into Bucks U

Yesterday, Bucks fans received the news they were hoping for when it came to the assistant coaching staff. Mike Budenholzer is bringing nearly his entire staff from Atlanta to Milwaukee including former Milwaukee Bucks player Darvin Ham. This is a great sign for the Bucks. It’s a true notion of a new era in Milwaukee. There are still a few former Bucks assistants like Sean Sweeney who have yet to land a coaching job in Milwaukee or somewhere else. It remains to be seen whether Budenholzer will add them to the staff. If he does, the role for Sweeney will be diminished. It’s exciting to watch the start of Bucks U this Fall.
Bucks U will basically the start of the Bucks chemistry and culture with the team. Peachtree Hoops, SB Nation’s Hawks blog, did a great job laying out basically what Hawks University is about developing talent that is not only draft picks, but also free agents that either veterans or undrafted rookies. From everything you read, Budenholzer wants to establish a culture and find the chemistry with his players. That’s something Milwaukee fans have been yearning for in the last few years under the tutelage of Jason Kidd and others.
It’s also exciting to have Darvin Ham back in the mix. According to Gery Woelfel, Ham expressed interest in being the Bucks head coach someday. Ham was a beloved figure in the City of Milwaukee, and it will be good to have him back in the mix. He’s a very smart coach and on the doorstep of being a head coach somewhere in the next few years.
