Was The Clay Matthews Hit ‘Dirty’?

On Wednesday, Clay Matthews made comments to the media that he would play on Sunday against Houston Texans amid a shoulder injury suffered by a hit on Allen Barbre. We all saw the hit, it’s pretty gnarly and a classic crack-back block. Matthews claimed that it’s ‘dirty’. I don’t entirely agree with that.
Plain and simple, he got blown up. This happens to every defensive player in the league at some point in their career. Matthews didn’t have the balance he needed and got clocked by Barbre. I do think Matthews might have a point regarding crack blocks being ‘dirty.’ If the player doesn’t square up, it’s a helmet-to-helmet hit and should be a penalty like the defensiveless receiver call. But Barbre hit on Matthews was square and a big one.
Hopefully, Matthews can give the Packers a little something on Sunday. I thought he played a pretty good second half dancing all over the field playing both inside and outside. I expect him to the game this week.
