Giannis Antetokounmpo Meeting With Owners Is Exactly What You Want

While the Green Bay Packers got their season started and Milwaukee Brewers tried to make a playoff push this weekend, the Milwaukee Bucks also found themselves still in the headlines. Despite being ousted earlier in the week, Bucks are dealing with all sorts of rumors about Giannis Antetokounmpo. First, we had all of the Instagram stuff on Saturday morning. Second, a report came out later in the day that Giannis met privately with Marc Lasry to discuss the future. Some people freaked out about that, but for me, that is a sign in the right direction.
No one knows what this meeting was about. Even if they write what this meeting was about, they have no clue. There are a few reporters I trust with Giannis news, and the ones reporting out on the meeting were not them. The discussion could have been about a lot of things. And that’s a good discussion to have. Antetokounmpo is the star player and if he wants to throw his weight around like LeBron or other superstars, that’s allowed. He is not the bad guy here. And I don’t think Lasry is either. Rather it’s two guys having a honest conversation about the future.
From my point of view, here would be some guesses on what the conversations that might be happening with the Bucks star and their owner. I’m sure Mike Budenholzer was discussed. And if Bud departs in the next two days which goes against what Shams reported last week, then we know what was the driver of this conversation. Giannis would get painted in a new light, but that’s another story for another time. I also think the team itself was discussed. Giannis probably looks at what Toronto did and what Miami and Boston is doing, and thinks how can we be like them? For whatever it’s worth, Bucks are probably still playing if they took on Boston in the second round, not Miami.
Lasry likely had some things to discuss too. The idea of getting the supermax done before the season started would be the biggest accomplishment for the Bucks’ owners since getting the Fiserv Forum built. That would be a great way to start the season and quiet all the noise. Not sure that is what Giannis will do, but Lasry having a conversation about what needs to happen for that to be a reality is a fair question.
We’ll see if there is any more drama around the Greek Freak and the Bucks.
Charlie.
