Golden State Warriors Revenge Tour Next Stop: NBA Finals
Golden State Warriors are 12-0 in the NBA Playoffs. That’s an unreal start to the playoffs, and a first in NBA history. Los Angeles Lakers went 11-0 to begin the playoffs before losing Game 1 in the infamous step over game against Philadelphia. Chicago Bulls never did it leading into NBA Finals. A few of Michael Jordan’s Finals campaign feature only one or two losses at most. Warriors are in a class of their own. They’ve looked scary for the first three series of the playoffs. Can they finish it off with their second NBA Finals trophy in three years?
I’m frankly surprised Warriors have yet to lose in the NBA Playoffs. Portland is a mid-tier NBA team, but they could have stole a game. Utah had a chance in Game 3 to take one before Kevin Durant went bonkers in the fourth quarter picking up a struggling Steph Curry. San Antonio never posed a threat besides Game 1 because of Kahwi Leonard’s injury. People will guffaw about if Warriors’ final, but you beat the teams you are supposed to with the competition they have on the court. Kawhi probably makes this into a five or six game series at least. There’s a simmering discussion about how the NBA is actually broken, but we’re not there just yet.
Warriors head to NBA Finals out for revenge, and they’ll have homecourt no matter if it’s Boston Celtics or Cleveland Cavaliers. The ultimate revenge will happen if they get to face Cavs again for the third straight season. There’s so much more to this one though. Each team genuinely hates each other. Durant is added to the mix, and he’s looking for his first ring as well as finally putting one over on LeBron James. I don’t think anyone wants to see Celtics, but a 16-0 playoff run would be possible if that somehow happens which would lead to a mountain of takes where the whole sports infrastructure burns down.
Excited for Finals regardless of the opponent when they begin next Thursday night.
