How Concerned Should Green Bay Be About Sam Shields?

ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields suffered a concussion late in the win versus Jacksonville. This is Shields’ fourth concussion for his career and his second in nine months. This isn’t a good history of concussions for the Packers corner. Add to that, he missed four games with his concussion last season. Green Bay should be looking at their stable of young defensive backs and be thankful they have him in place with a known uncertainty about how long Shields has left in his league. It’s hard to tell a defender to play smarter like we do with a quarterback, but Shields needs to find ways to avoid head injuries. He loves having his nose in plays, and that’s great yet he puts himself at greater risk for a concussion.
The young secondary versus Sam Bradford likely is troublesome only because Norv Turner loves to chuck it deep plus Quinton Rollins had one of his worst games as a pro and you would assume Minnesota will pick on him if Shields can’t go.
