Josh Jones Wants Out of Green Bay
Green Bay Packers begin OTAs today and Josh Jones will not be there. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Jones is seeking a trade from the Packers as he sees his playing time dwindle with the additions of Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage. This isn’t a surprise, but it is definitely disappointing considering Green Bay drafted Jones in the second round of the NFL Draft. This is one of the former Packers general manager Ted Thompson’s bad selections. It is also a shame that the NC State product doesn’t want to fight for playing time in the offseason and would instead like to get traded.
Packers safety Josh Jones is skipping the voluntary OTAs and working out in Florida because he’s hoping to be traded, a source told ESPN. The source said the 2017 second-round pick believes it would be best for both parties if they parted ways. Story coming on ESPN shortly.

This sounds like a Wally Waukesha (For those who don’t listen to the podcast, a local suburban fan who is team-first to the fullest), but Jones deciding to punt on OTAs is a weak move. Savage is a rookie. There is no guarantee that he will be ready to start Game 1 of the NFL season. Sure, the writing is on the wall moving forward with his career, but why not at least try to show out and be better than your competition versus taking the easy way out with a trade? He is not a premier player. He can only hit people really hard but other than that, he is clueless in coverage yet refuses to play more of a linebacker position.
Jones has two years left on his rookie deal meaning he will be easier to move if the Packers do decide to trade him. If Ha Ha Clinton-Dix received a fourth-round pick, Jones cannot garner more than a sixth or seventh, right? Like he isn’t that good. And maybe that’s the problem with Jones himself. No one tells him that he has miles to go before being an actual football player versus a guy with loads of potential who knows how to hit a little bit. We’ll see if Gutekunst can find a partner for him.
