Kawhi’s Ankle Could Ruin A Potential Great NBA Series
Western Conference Finals opened up this afternoon with a surprise. San Antonio Spurs dominated Golden State Warriors in the first half and some of the third cruising along. It sent some warning notice to the Dubs that they might suffer their first defeat of the postseason. But everything changed when San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard landed on Zaza Pachulia foot, and Leonard would have to leave the game as he hurt his ankle again. While it might be an overreaction, but it feels like this entire series changed with that injury even if Kawhi can play at 75 percent.
Golden State slowly, but surely came back and won this basketball game. Manu Ginobili admitted that Spurs could not create off-the-ball without Kawhi, and that’s very true. They’re aren’t many creators on this team, and it’s something San Antonio will need to address in the offseason. If Leonard comes back, he’s likely not going to be the same. The only thing I could think of is Spurs rest him for Game 2 since it’s a quick turnarouand then have him ready for Game 3 on Saturday night. That would five nights off and might give him enough time to heal the bum ankle.
As for the ‘Was this on purpose?’ Probably. It’s a veteran play by Pachuila. The intention wasn’t to take out the Spurs superstar, but Zaza saw an opportunity to do it and took advantage. There will be some sort of retribution in Game 2. That’s a guarantee. What that exactly looks like, I’m unsure about it. Spurs don’t forget about shit like this.
I would love to see this be a series though. Leonard is the one to make it happen. Spurs cannot do it without him as Golden State has way too many players that can kill you. Let’s all say a little prayer so we can get a healthy Leonard and a good series.
