Packers Ink Davante Adams To New Extension

Big news on Friday afternoon as the Green Bay Packers sign Davante Adams to a 58 million dollar deal over four years with an 18 million dollar signing bonus. It’s a major deal for the Packers to get done before the season is done because it helps with cap strategy as well. Also, the team locks in their number one receiver for the future of this team and the twilight prime of Aaron Rodgers. Adams would have been one of the hottest free agents on the market with Oakland and San Francisco being candidates to make a serious run at him. Packers deserve a ton of credit for this move.
Adams had a career year with Rodgers and Brett Hundley at the helm. I’ll tell you that he’ll be one of the A’s when we give Packers Grades next week. He had a Pro Bowl worthy season. He finished with 885 yards in 14 games with 10 touchdowns. Adams established himself as the number one receiver over Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. He’s playing great football over the last two season with a total of 1,882 yards, 149 receptions, 12.65 yards per catch and 22 touchdowns. That’s a pretty amazing stretch. No player has more receiving touchdowns over the last two seasons.
Sure, there is some concerns with him heading into this contract. Adams had three concussions over the last two years. That’s not encouraging especially with how we look at concussions in today’s National Football League. I wonder if the Packers put a clause in the contract in regards with that issue. There’s a chance this could be another version of Sam Shields, but honestly, it’s a risk worth taking.
Finally, a special shoutout to those whom thought Jeff Janis should be starting over Adams a few years ago. There was one Packers fan who had ‘JANIS OVER ADAMS’ as their Twitter bio. Just more proof that these people are usually smarter than you unless your name is Jason Kidd. Kisses to all of you who believed Adams should be cut a couple years ago.
Charlie.
