Stop Treating Badgers Like Farm System For The Packers
There is an almost annual tradition with the Green Bay Packers during draft season. Media people find a way to make a case for a high-profile Wisconsin Badgers player to come to Green Bay. Why do people insist on doing something like this? Well, the answer is pretty simple. It drives attention. For Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, people will click and read that article in the State of Wisconsin. For Gary Ellerson, people will call into their radio station on Monday afternoon. Yet the Jonathan Taylor push annoys me more than when there was noise for T.J. Watt in this same fashion.

The Taylor push is annoying because Packers’ need for a running back isn’t severe. Right now, they need inside linebackers, wide receivers, and offensive linemen in whichever order you prefer. Should they draft a running back with Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams in the final years of their deals? Yes. But not until the fourth or fifth round. Taylor is a great back who will make a team very happy, but he doesn’t fit with what Packers need in the NFL Draft.
In today’s world though, this will be a thing until the end of time. So maybe, I need to get over it. Talking about how Kenneth Murray, a much-talked-about Packers prospect, doesn’t lead to people listen or read. Nor does any of the offensive tackles. Hell, talking about Zach Baun or Quintez Cephus who are both more realistic Badgers to draft, would not help callers or readers. But fans have to be smarter. Yes, Taylor is your favorite college player, but there is no fit with the Packers. Realize that and ignore these attempts to reel you in. Maybe, that’s the only way people will stop talking about it.
