Throwback Thursday: Sidney Moncrief Kicking Danny Ainge’s Ass

With everyone watching The Last Dance over the past five weeks, there is a lot of basketball nostalgia. There are classic games left and right to keep people occupied. Bill Simmons and Ryen Russillo had a great suggestion about how there should be a show where they only show great final periods. No matter the sport. No need to show the full game, just the final couple of minutes. This sounds like a genius idea. One thing that is different about the old NBA versus today is that fighting was somewhat accepted. Take this fight between Syndey Moncrief and Danny Ainge in the 1987 NBA playoffs. Watch it and guess what happened to each player.

They only got technicals! That is wild. If that happened in 2020, there would be all sorts of news stories on it. Stephen A. Smith giving some hot take. Fines, suspensions, the whole bit. That was a helluva takedown by Sid. My guess is that Ainge probably deserved what was coming to him. Bucks-Celtics was a real rivalry in the 80s. It has the potential to be one again in the coming years.
