Vince Biegel Begins on PUP List but Don’t Freak out

Green Bay Packers began training camp this morning with an 8:15 am practice to really get the juices flowing. I love Packers having an early training camp to begin. It begins back nostalgia of starting training camp bright and early in the morning with dew on the grass with the humidity rising as the day went on. Packers coach Mike McCarthy announced that Vince Biegel will begin the year on the PUP list, but it appears he could be back in a couple of weeks.
People hear PUP list, and they immediately go into a panic. But at the start of training camp, it’s actually okay for guys to begin their season there. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will be on that list along with others. The reason PUP list is fine in training camp is it’s basically the NFL’s version of the Disabled List. This only becomes a problem for Biegel and Packers if he’s there when the season begins leading to first six weeks of the seasons spent there.
Due to his injury, my expectations for Biegel are not as high as they were when they drafted him in the fourth round. This is due in large part to having some realism and know that it’s really hard for rookies to grasp what Dom Capers is trying do on a regular basis. He could be a player that comes on strong at the tail end of the season much like Dean Lowry did on the defensive line.
