Bucks Buzz Vol. 9: Giannis & Milwaukee Makes Mincemeat of Memphis

Player of the Game: Giannis Anetokounmpo (Bucks) – Through nearly the first 10 games, Giannis looks like a star of this league. He had full control over Memphis on Saturday night filling up the stat sheet with 27 points, six rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocks. That’s a beasty stat line for Greek Freak. There wasn’t a player on Memphis who could slow him down with Tony Allen out with an injury. Giannis continues to steal the show and it’s the best thing ever.
(Not) Player of the Game: Mirza Teletovic (Bucks) – Not sure if this was Jason Kidd’s plan for the specific opponent, but odd that Teletovic only got five minutes of run in this game. This is by far his lowest minute total in the first nine games. Teletovic only played eleven in the game versus New Orleans. This is a trend we should pay attention to in the coming week.
Player of the Game: Vince Carter (Grizzlies) – Throwback game for the 39-year-old veteran. Carter scored 17 points with all of his misses coming on three-point attempts. It’s awesome to see Carter still have the ability to be a good, productive player off the bench for Memphis. This was Carter’s second straight game with 15-plus points.
Positive: Bench productivity was nice to see from Milwaukee on Saturday night. Michael Beasley had 19 points and Malcolm Brogdon had 12 points. That’s big for Milwaukee if they can get this kind of bench scoring. They don’t need nearly 20 points from one of their players each night but getting 42 from bench is going to win a lot of games. Beasley needed this kind of night. I wonder if this sparks him. Related, check these quotes from Giannis on Brogdon. It sounds like John Hammond did it again.
Negative: End of the first half was pure shit. Bucks had a chance to be up by double-digits and let Memphis crawl back into in the final two minutes. Milwaukee had a 44-31 lead before Memphis went on an 8-0 run with some bad moments from Giannis and others. Jabari Parker made some comments about effort and staying alert, and this could be a direct example of that.
Next Up: They head to Atlanta on Wednesday night with Hawks who are playing decent ball. This is a new look Hawks team with Dwight Howard in the middle. Last year, Milwaukee took two of three from Atlanta. This is a good stretch to know how good Bucks are with Hawks, Heat and Warriors in the next three.
