Cam Newton’s Comments Should Scare Goodell

Cam Newton is always one of the more electric post-game press conference attendees for a wide-range of reasons. He dresses to the nines every week, and he usually has something to say whether it be about his play or about another thing happening in the league. Newton is fed up with the way the officials are inconsistent with calling penalties on him.
Cam Newton: "Because at times, I don’t even feel safe. And enough is enough. I plan on talking to Commissioner Goodell about this."

As many have talked about in the media, Newton is operating under ‘Shaq Rules’ where the NBA didn’t know how to officiate Shaquille O’Neal in his first couple years in the league. The same thing is happening to Newton right now as he’s treated too much like a running back and not like other quarterbacks such as Andrew Luck or Aaron Rodgers.
This will not sit well at the league office. Expect Roger Goodell to come out today and say something about how “We take Cam’s concerns very seriously and we’ll do everything we can to address them.” They would like to nip this in the bud because it’s one thing to have Josh Norman or Richard Sherman complain about calls, it’s a whole other thing when it’s a prominent quarterback. It opens the flood gates to more criticism. Goodell would likely want this to be the last he hears of any quarterback frustration.
Charlie.
