Can’t Believe the Randall Cobb Rodgers Trade Story is Actually Real

On Monday when Aaron Rodgers returned to the Packers, the stories that were out there were all over the place. Some people didn’t know when Rodgers would be back. Others gave all of the things that could happen with Rodgers’ new deal with the team. But one of them that seemed so unlikely, and it came from a non-news breaker so it had to be fake was Rodgers wants Randall Cobb back. This felt impossible. While Cobb is one of Rodgers’ best friends, there is 0.0 room for Cobb. Even if the deal is only a sixth or seventh-rounder, I have no idea how it helps the Packers.
Let’s be clear that I like Cobb a lot and am thankful for all he did with the Packers. But it just doesn’t make sense. Not when you have Amari Rodgers, the rookie from Clemson, who could potentially be the next Cobb. Now, I know they know each other, they’re friends, and his dad, Tee Martin, was Amari’s wide receiver coach too. He would not be upset by this move, but it takes away from the Packers’ future plus doesn’t help Green Bay win now. The wide receiver group is already crowded. Why do we need to add one of Rodgers’ buddies?
Also, are we sure this is being driven by Rodgers? I could see Cobb and his team pushing this out there. Think about it for a second. He is slated to play on the worst team in football, Houston. The team just got Anthony Miller from Chicago who plays a similar slot position as him. The writing is on the wall for Cobb. This story could easily come from his camp, and Rodgers might have been loosely involved yet not to the point where this is a deal-breaker.
We’ll see if the Packers cater to Rodgers and gets one of his best friends back.
Charlie.
