Four Things About Marquette’s Big East Schedule

I’m a little behind on this, but let’s get into Marquette’s Big East schedule.
Marquette hosts Villanova
It’s the first time since 1978 that Golden Eagles will host the defending National Champions on Tuesday, January 24th. Golden Eagles gets them middle of the Big East season after playing them in Philly at the beginning of the Big East season. It’s not unreasonable to think Nova could be a top five team coming into the Bradley Center. It’s too bad Marquette gets them on a Tuesday versus a Saturday when the crowd would be drunk and fun.
Golden Eagles get no favors with Xavier and Seton Hall
Even though Isaiah Whitehead is gone, Pirates should be pretty good with several young players returning this season. Xavier could be just as good as Nova. Unforunate thing for Marquette is they play Seton Hall twice in 12 days at the beginning of the season then they get Musketeers twice in 14 days. That’s less than ideal for Marquette, but in the case of Xavier, Golden Eagles might get a chance to get key wins late in the season in case they’re on the bubble.
Marquette will see a lot of the Garden
I believe I saw Golden Eagles will play the court four times this season. Twice, they will be there for the 2k Classic then they’ll head to face St. John on February 1st then the Big East Championship. There’s nothing wrong with Marquette getting a little more comfortable at the place they play for a chance at an automatic bid in March.
National Marquette Day is a night game.
LOVE IT. That’s going to be a drunk one. They might get a top 10 team there that might be ripe for an upset.
