Marquette Returns To The Top 25

It’s good to be back. Marquette Golden Eagles haven’t been in the Top 25 since the days of Buzz Williams. Those days are over. Steve Wojciechowski’s bunch is ranked number 24th in the second week of polls. Marquette gained the second-most votes outside the Top 25 last week and with the 24 and 25th ranked team losing, Marquette became a natural fit. Golden Eagles will have a tough game against Indiana on Wednesday, so, the stay in the Top 25 might not be a lengthy one for Marquette. That said, there’s going to be around the Top 25 all season.
We are two games into the season, but I’ve liked what Marquette showed in the first two games. Markus Howard went off for 37 points in Game 2. Golden Eagles defense is a top 30 eFG% defense, and one the best offenses in the country. Sam Hauser looks healthy. Joey Hauser will be starting before the Big East season begins. Theo John and Ed Morrow add the beef that everyone expected at the beginning of the season.
Are there some issues? Yep, no question about it. People are worried about Joseph Chartouny. Marquette showed cold streaks in both games last week. John is still a magnet for fouls. These are all fixable though for the Golden Eagles.
Happy they’re back in the Top 25. Hope it’s not a one-week stay.
Charlie.
