Badgers on Bye: What Else Happened in Big Ten

With Wisconsin on bye, let’s check out what happened across the Big Ten landscape on Saturday afternoon.
Michigan 78 Rutgers 0 – No words to describe this kind of ass-kicking from Michigan. They dominated Rutgers in the worst way possible. Scarlet Knights got their first 1st down late in the fourth quarter, and Michigan ran it up on them all game long.
Ohio State 38 Indiana 17 – Hard-fought game for the Hoosiers who I believe had the lead to single-digits at one point. Ohio State cannot throw the ball, and when they are struggling through the air, defenses crowd the box. This might not be a good sign for Buckeyes moving forward.
Penn State 38 Maryland 14 – One of the more surprising results of Saturday. Maryland came in unbeaten with something to prove versus Penn State, and all they did is prove there is still work to do with the Terrapins. Impressive win for Penn State after all the rumblings about James Franklin maybe being on the hot seat.
BYU 31 Michigan State 14 – It’s time to admit that Michigan State is a pretty bad football team. I know this gives Wisconsin doubters pure fuel to the flame that ‘Wisconsin as good as their ranking shows they are’ yet it’s time to admit Sparty isn’t what we thought it would be at the start of the season. Spartans had no answer for what has been a pretty bad offense in BYU all second half, and Tyler O’Connor got pulled for Damion Terry during this one. Interesting to see who Michigan State rides with going forward.
Iowa 14 Minnesota 7 – WOOOO BIG TEN! A classic low-scoring affair in Minneapolis. Both teams are sorta good, but not really that good if you catch my drift. Iowa struggles up front on both sides of the ball. For the 100th year it seems, Minnesota does not have an offensive attack leading to these low-scoring affairs. Iowa’s late score proves to be the difference.
Purdue 34 Illinois 31 (OT) – Two of the worst teams in the Big Ten played a classic on Saturday. Boilermakers tied the game with nine minutes left to go in the game, and the game stayed that way as the Illini couldn’t connect on a field goal at the end of regulation. To make matters worst for Illinois, they fumble on their first overtime possession and Purdue recovers it. That would be all she wrote.
