BrewCap: St. Louis Sweeps Milwaukee Right Out of Town
Earlier this week, we enjoyed the sweep of the Detroit Pistons as Bucks fan. A couple days later, one of our teams was on the opposite end of a sweep. This one is in the regular season and early on in the year, it still does not feel great especially when it’s against a rival. St. Louis Cardinals dominated the Milwaukee Brewers for all three games. Brewers did have a lead for a bit in this game, but it quickly vanished when Jhoulys Chacin blew up in the fourth inning. Brewers are a bit of a hot mess right now checking in at 13-13 on the year. It is not easy to play 17 of your first 26 games versus the Dodgers and Cardinals yet that’s baseball. You have to beat those teams at some point.
Player of the Game: Eric Thames – Say hello to your first baseman. We talked a bit on the podcast last week how Thames could basically pull an Aguilar to Jesus Aguilar, and he appears to be doing that. As the Aguilar regression train continues to chug its way down the station, Thames is relishing in the opportunity to play more for the Crew. He hit another home run today along with another hit. He was the only Brewers batter with two hits in the game.
Honorable Mention: Marcell Ozuna – This guy is worthy of a Brewers Killer club nomination. He always seems to find a way to have success versus the Brew Crew. Ozuna broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run blast off Chacin, and that proved to be the difference in the game. While Christian Yelich is always the story about the Miami fire sale, let’s not forget that Ozuna was part of that sell off too. He’s a damn good young player.
Thing I liked: Way to bounce back Jacob Barnes – You know shit is bad when I have to keep complimenting relief pitchers, but here we are for the third fucking game. Barnes pitched well in the fifth inning. He did get in a little trouble but worked his way out of it. That’s very important after he blew up on Monday night. It is nice to see his confidence come back.
Thing I didn’t like: Christian Yelich didn’t get one single hit – My dad always says ‘Law of large numbers’ when something comes down to earth or something has been going so shitty that things start to go right. Yelich did so well versus the Cardinals in the first two times these two teams played each other, maybe it’s not surprising Yelich went hitless? He did not get a single hit in this series. That hasn’t happened to him during his time with the Brewers until this week.
Highlight of the Day: Thames hits another homer
Eric Thames hit a homer against a team that wears red in April. That checks out. #ThisIsMyCrew pic.twitter.com/s87Ys8AS52

Next up: Brewers head to New York to take on the Mets in their first matchup with anyone from the National League East. Mets are 13-11 on the season leading the NL East currently. Chase Anderson will get another go at it on Friday night facing off against Jacob deGrom. Now, deGrom went on the DL, so we’ll see if that’s accurate on Friday night.
