BrewCap: The Fantastic Freddy Peralta

Baseball is an unpredictable sport. You never know what a season might bring for a team especially a good one. At the start of the year if you were to tell me that Jesus Aguilar is angling towards an All-Star appearance, and Freddy Peralta might be the Rookie of the Year if he stays in the big leagues, I’d call you crazy. But here we are. Freddy Peralta debuted at Miller Park with an amazing performance striking out 10 batters, giving up one hit and walking only one batter as well. Peralta’s ERA for the season is 1.59. I have zero idea how you can send him back down to Colorado Springs.
Player of the Game: Freddy Peralta – You have to give him this honor obviously. We’re going to have a day with Freddy on the blog and the podcast. Christian Yelich was asked after the game if Peralta reminds me of Jose Fernandez. He didn’t get asked directly, but that’s what the reporters were hoping from Yelich. He said that they’re different pitchers from pitch type, but the impact on the team can be similar. Lofty praise for Freddy.
Silver Star: Ryan Braun – How about it? Braun received an injection into his thumb last week, and since returning to the lineup, he’s been very good. Braun went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and walk in this game. Braun looked good from the start having a double that scrapped the wall in the first to put a man on for Yelich then he mashed a bomb of a home run. Braun hitting in the two hole is a great move by Craig Counsell. Not sure the team can do that once Cain is back, but who knows, Craig can get creative.
Honorable Mention: Christian Yelich – He remains hot on this homestand. Yelich hit a two-run blast to start the game, but he got on once more plus added a stolen base. He was pretty good in this one. Yelich is a catalyst for this team and definitely deserving of an All-Star spot. Don’t think it will happen, but he deserves it.
Next up: Brewers-Royals wrap up their season series this afternoon at Miller Park. We’ll see if the roof is open today. Lefthander matchup with Brent Suter going for Milwaukee. Suter will continue to build on what’s been a strong June for him. Danny Duffy will tow the rubber for Kansas City. He’s been wildly inconsistent this year. It could be a big day for Aguilar, Braun and others.
Charlie.
